THE REALITY
Over 90% of farmed animals worldwide are raised in intensive factory farms. Broiler chickens are selectively bred for rapid growth, reaching slaughter weight in just 42 days, often causing skeletal deformities. Egg-laying hens are confined to battery cages with less space than an A4 sheet of paper, preventing natural behaviors like dust bathing or wing-spreading. These industrial systems prioritize efficiency and profit over basic sentient needs, resulting in prolonged physical and psychological distress for billions of animals every year.
Pregnant sows are frequently kept in gestation crates so narrow they cannot turn around. Dairy cows are repeatedly impregnated to maintain milk production, with calves often removed within hours of birth. The vast majority of beef cattle endure painful procedures such as dehorning and branding without anesthesia. Intensive confinement breeds disease, leading to heavy antibiotic use and environmental degradation. The sheer scale of production muffles the individual suffering of conscious beings processed solely as commodities.
